A decade of professional ID photo experience — a new website and system at your service

Frequently asked questions

Answers below focus on how this site works and how official ID photos are commonly evaluated. Requirements change; always double-check the issuer’s official checklist before you submit an application.

Is this service free?
The core generator runs in your browser session. We do not charge a separate fee for basic cropping and export. Hosting and development are supported in part by advertising. If you use an ad blocker, consider supporting the project by whitelisting the site—this helps keep the tool available to everyone.
Do you store my photos on your servers?
Images are processed so you can preview and download your result. We design the workflow around minimal retention; see our Privacy Policy for details. Avoid uploading sensitive documents you do not need for the crop (for example, hide passport numbers if you are only testing the tool).
Will my passport or visa office accept this photo?
Acceptance depends on your pose, lighting, clothing, and whether the final file matches the published specification. We cannot certify compliance. Use the official dimensions and background colour from your authority, compare your output visually to their examples, and re-take the picture if anything looks borderline.
What DPI should I use?
Many authorities ask for 300 DPI or equivalent pixel dimensions. If the requirement lists both millimetres and pixels, prefer matching the pixel count exactly. Our exporter lets you set DPI metadata; your printer must still print at 100% scale without “fit to page” shrinking the image.
Why does automatic background removal sometimes fail?
AI segmentation struggles with flyaway hair against busy backgrounds, strong backlight, or colours that match your skin tone. Try a plain wall behind you, diffuse daylight from the front, and retake the shot if edges look jagged. You can also pick a solid background colour in the app that matches the official requirement and touch up the crop manually.
Can I wear glasses or a head covering?
Rules vary. Many passport programs allow thin-framed prescription glasses with no glare, but forbid tinted lenses. Religious head coverings are often allowed if the face is visible from forehead to chin. When in doubt, follow the issuer’s written policy and use their example photos as a reference.
How do I get a neutral expression?
Relax your jaw, look straight into the camera, and breathe out gently before the shutter. Avoid smiling unless the document type explicitly permits it (some US-style guidelines allow a natural smile; many EU-style guidelines do not).
Where can I read more about sizes and crops?
Start with our requirements overview and the visual guide. Your country selector inside the app loads common presets, but presets are not legal advice.
