The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency requires a photo that meets identity standards. Renewal and first-issue processes may differ—read the current DVLA photo rules.

Format and sharpness

Provide a 35 × 45 mm color image with a clear, sharp representation of your face. Black and white images are not acceptable. Avoid filters that change your appearance.

Face and expression

Neutral expression, mouth closed, looking at the camera. Head not tilted. Prescription glasses allowed if eyes are visible without glare; sunglasses not allowed.

Background

Plain pale background without patterns. No shadows or objects. The photo must look natural and recent.
