USCIS uses the same general 2 × 2 inch specification as Department of State passport photos for many filings. Always read the form instructions for your specific application (adjustment of status, immigrant visa, or renewal).
Size and composition
Submit a recent color photo, 2 × 2 inches, showing your full face with a neutral or natural expression. The head height in the frame must match USCIS diagrams. Use high resolution with no pixelation when printed at actual size.
Glasses, uniforms, and head coverings
Glasses are typically not permitted unless medically necessary with documentation. Avoid uniforms except daily religious attire. Religious head coverings are allowed if the full face is visible from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of the face.
Background and lighting
Plain white to off-white background, evenly lit, without decorative elements or strong shadows. The photo must resemble your everyday appearance.
