Why My New ID Photo?
Plenty of apps can crop a square. We built this one because getting an ID photo accepted is still frustrating: shadows on the background, hair cut out like a sticker, a file that compresses into mush after upload, or a print that measures half a millimetre off. Our tool combines an in-house neural matting pipeline, a manual edge-refinement brush, and real-world field notes from applicants who learned the hard way.
In-house background removal, not a third-party filter
Most generators use a generic cutout API. We run an in-house portrait matting network exported as a quantized ONNX model on our own servers. The result is a soft alpha matte, not a hard silhouette, so hair and shoulders blend naturally into the official background colour. You can switch between white, off-white, light grey, light blue, or red and the same matte recomposites instantly in your browser.
Edge Refine: when automation needs a human eye
Neural networks hesitate at exactly the places passport offices look hardest: flyaway hair, ears, collars. Our Enhance step includes a brush that locally re-estimates the matte inside your stroke. Foreground mode brings back missing strands; background mode removes leftover wall colour or halos. This is not Instagram retouching — it is a controlled, undoable correction based on the same matting data the server produced.
Privacy-first by design
